Album Info:Here are 73 original photos that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona during August of 1965. Some of the photos offered herein were taken during stopovers in North Philadelphia and Harrisburg, but most were taken from moving trains. These color slides are presented in the order that I took them.

Shown here is the long-disused PRR Ice Planu near Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. In the good ol' days when refrigerator cars used ice ~ instead of gasoline ~ to keep their cargos cold, eastbound produce trains would stop here to replenish before continuing on to their East Coast destinations.

The train has just passed through one of the Spruce Creek Tunnels and has just now passed the PRR's SPRUCE Tower.

Description:  WIL-ALT-65. Here is an original photo that I took while riding in a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train from Harrisburg to Altoona during August of 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engine #6038 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both were built by EMD. #6038 is an EF-25A built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are parked just east of the 4th Street Bridge, and their crew awaits orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West with an iron-ore train. Partially visible a couple of tracks over are three ALCo locomotives pushing a westbound freight train out of the Yard.
