PRR East Altoona Roundhouse, 1965 |
Description: |
Roundehouse. Here are two original telephoto views that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad property in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965 ~ two photos that were very skillfully joined by Mr. Lance R. Myers of www.altoonaworks.info. Shown here (R to L) are one-half of the original 50-bay East Altoona Roundhouse, the former Power House (sans smoke stacks), a six-car wreck train, as well as an unidentified Diesel pulling a string of hopper cars loaded with coal out of the Eastbound Receiving Yards. Also visible are the 17th and 8th Street Bridges respectively, and the Juniata Erecting & Machine Shop in the distance. |

PRR East Altoona Roundhouse, 1965 |
Description: |
Roundhouse. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad property in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 April 1965. Shown here is PRR engine #7924, an ES-12 built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. It is shifting another unit (whose number is not visible) into the East Altoona Roundhouse, which is now used for light-duty maintenance of Diesels. Note all of the weeds that now occupy the space where steam locomotives were once maintained 24/7/365! |

Site of PRR's East Altoona Roundhouse, 1972 |
Description: |
Roundhouse. Here is an original photo that I took of Penn Central Railroad property in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 24 June 1972. Shown here is the site of what was once the 50-bay East Altoona Roundhouse that serviced steam locomotives 24/7/365. At one time, it was one of the busiest places in all of PRR-Altoona. All that's left now are memories and weeds! Photo taken from the 17th Street Bridge. |
