Description:
Such a sad sight to see this once proud 2-8-2 Mikado sitting in a scrap line at Proviso, IL. Built by Baldwin in July of 1911 as Illinois Central #1611 (serial #36646), it was rebuilt and renumbered by the IC shops in April of 1944 to IC #1613. Then in April of 1951, it was renumbered again to IC #1758 as seen here. After nearly 44 years of service, the loco was sold for scrap in May of 1955. Original specs - 63" drivers, 175 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 283,850 lb, tractive effort of 51,637 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.
