There are four gauges in front of him, other controls on the control stand to his left, and a handset, looking like the receiver part of a telephone, at his right. Interestingly, the handset has the letters "D&RGW" embossed on it! The engineer graciously allowed me to come into the cab and I am grateful beyond words for the opportunity. Be assured, my hands touched nothing except the handrails and my camera during the time I was in the cab chatting with the crew. They have great people at the Monticello Railway Museum! |

Caught this pair of cab units by accident......they will be on the move, per this email from Tom Binger, with this info: This movement is subject to delay or change based on railroad procedures and schedules, but both locomotives were approved for the journey by the NS and FRA recently. The Wabash unit is carrying reporting marks of RPCA 1189 in temporary appliques on both sides of the locomotive. Following their display in Spencer at the end of May and beginning of June (May 29-June 1), the CN 6789 will be returned to Monticello while the Wabash 1189 goes to a shop in the east for some truck and electrical work. This is as close as I casn get with my camera...hopefully someone else has a longer reach. |
