3rd Infantry Division patch on nose
Having a 3rd ID patch makes me wonder if this was not the Loco at Ft Stewart GA.We would load M1 Tanks on flats at Stewart and move them to Savannah GA for ship boarding during deployment.

David Stewart General I assume it's just being transfered to another facility. I can't figiure out this units heritage. Obisiously several differant locos put back together after so many years. Appears to be a plain old GP9. 3/30/2008 1:47:55 PM
Tim Moriarty General Most likely it's going to the rail shop at Hill AFB, Ogden, UT, for some depot-level maintenance. It wears the 3rd Inf Div shoulder patch on the nose because it has been assigned to Fort Stewart, GA, home of the 3rd. Most posts don't "personalize" locomotives in this fashion, but clearly Fort Stewart did. Reportedly it is ex-C&NW 4531. 7/28/2008 10:54:13 AM
