Sad to see this ten wheeler obviously sitting in scrap line having already lost its headlight, number board and bell. Built by Brooks (per-ALCO) in May of 1898 originally as Eastern Rwy of Minnesot 4-6-0 #154, it was renumbered in 1899 to Eastern Rwy #1004. When Eastern Minnesota was absorbed into the Great Northern roster, the loco became GN 4-6-0 #1004. It was later superheated by the GN Shops and bumped up to E-10s class. After nearly 34 years of dedicated service, the loco was scrapped in March of 1932. Original specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 20x30" cylinders, engine weight of 166,580 lb and modest 32,380 lb. This is a Robert Graham photo. No date was given for the photo but since it appears to be in the scrap line, it was given 1932 as the date. |
