Horseshoe Curve-1948. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in the Summer of 1948. Shown here are three unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives pulling a 28-car westbound mail/express train. The first is an M-1A (4-8-2) "Mountain," next is an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado," and then there is a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex." After the train passes through the tunnels at Gallitzin, the first two locomotives will be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for further assignments. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Pennsy Steam Locomotives" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (109-11).

Robert Anderson General A T-1 away from the flat lands. Was this unusual or returning from Altoona shop? Agree with above. Great album. 10/6/2018 3:35:47 AM
