Rolfe. Here is an original photo by N. Rolfe that was taken while rounding the Horseshoe Curve in a Pennsylvania Railroad passenger train on Sunday, 4 November 1951. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5811 and another "Centipede" whose number is not recorded. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and rated at 3,000 horsepower each. #5811 was built in March of 1947 and retired in April of 1962 after just 15 years of passenger and helper service; it was the lowest-numbered locomotive of its class on the PRR. #6 of 6. |
