This isn't the best shot, but I took it mainly for historical reference. K403 (Chicago, IL Proviso - Ladds, GA) passes the Hazen Brigade Monument in the Stones River National Battlefield on the north side of Murfreesboro. The monument is the oldest Civil War monument in the nation. A Union Pacific motor is on the point of the train. One of the chief engineers involved in the original construction of the UP was Grenville Dodge, who was a Union general during the Civil War (although he was not present at Stones River). |
