Well-weathered Illinois Central (Gulf) GP9 9242 was one of five old unrebuilt geeps that were stored at MAYS YARD, just west of New Orleans. This was three years after the railroad stopped remanufacturing old geeps, and four of these units would never run again and were retired the next year, but the 9242 was sold to the Chicago Central & Pacific where it was renumbered 1742. |
