LIRR 43, G-5S, c. 1929
Here is a photo by H.W. Pontin via Rail Photo Service. Shown here is Long Island Rail Road engine #43, a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in Juniata during May of 1929. Note the third rails installed between the tracks. Many thanks to Mr. Robert Hess for identifying this locomotive correctly (see comment below). The exact date and the location are not recorded. Robert Hess	General	This is actually Long Island RR G5s No. 43. Certainly with the larger 11,000 gallon tenders on 22 of these engines, it's easy to mistake them for a K4s. The pilot on the G5s has a distinctive angled cutaway at the ends. Also visible is the black smokebox door contrasting with the graphite paint on the smokebox front, which was unique to the LIRR.	6/2/2022 1:47:22 PM
