| Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans) train No. 834 was on its way from Alexandria to Lafayette, Louisiana behind locomotive 480 and was at Carencro, seven miles north of its destination. The 480 was an M-9 class Mogul built by Alco’s Brooks Works in 1908 as Cananea, Rio Yaqui y Pacifico 514. It became Houston & Texas Central 556 in 1912, then Texas & New Orleans 556 in 1934, then T&NO 480 in July 1950 and was sold for scrap to Commercial Metals in Houston in May1955.
