With its blades painted red and its housing in black, the Northern Pacific steam powered rotary snow plow is an arresting sight at the Lake Superior RR Museum. Built in 1887 by the Cooke Locomotive Works, it cleared the snow clogged tracks up and down the NP mainline. This may be the oldest steam-driven rotary snow plow in the US. The museum purchased it from a railroad historical society in 1975. |
