Title:
SP 2702 and 2703
Description:
Southern Pacific 2702 and 2703 were the first MP15AC units ever built, placed in service on 27 August 1975. Here they were three months later, interchanging cars with the Illinois Central Gulf at the Espee's EAST BRIDGE YARD, next to the east end of the HUEY P. LONG BRIDGE. The headlight in the distance was a Southern Railway geep making a delivery to the Missouri Pacific in the New Orleans Public Belt's EAST BRIDGE YARD, just off to the right.

Title:
Not UP, not yet anyway
Description:
SP still was a going operation in 1984, and there was no hint that they would eventually be swallowed by the UP. The stillborn merger attempt with Santa Fe was still ahead at this stage. Funny how things turn out.

Title:
Shrewsbury Road
Description:
Two sets of light power wait on the Norfolk Southern BACK BELT for a route through East Bridge Junction. Both sets are probably headed to their respective yards at Avondale, at the west end of the Huey P. Long Bridge. SP MP15AC's 2702 and 2703 are returning from the Norfolk Southern's Oliver Yard, while MP 3291, UP 4277, MP 3125 and UP 3265 -- all SD40-2's -- are on their way back from the CSX's Gentilly Yard. SP 2702 and 2703 were the very first MP15AC units built by EMD, and the first dozen of these began their careers in south Louisiana. Although initially operated in cab-to-cab sets, nose-to-nose operation was later adopted.
