The crew of the MALPM picks up a covered hopper from the soon-to-close Royster Clark plant. The remainder of their train, which is made up tankers and covered hoppers, came from the town of Cottage Grove. Time will only tell how this area will look in the years to come. The neighbors of the Royster Clark plant, mostly homeowners, have been very vocally opposed to the plant for a long time. For now, the trains keep rolling... |

WSOR corn sandwich! |
Description: |
Neither mosquitos nor hills nor sweat in my eyes could keep me from taking this shot. I'm 6'2", and this corn is absolutely dwarfing me as I'm standing straight up. Much of Wisconsin is suffering from a drought, but south-central WI is clearly doing fine. The exact location of this photo is unknown- I was biking in the middle of nowhere and turned down a long driveway to a farm to steal this shot. It's somewhere outside of Cottage Grove on the WSOR's short, but charismatic Cottage Grove sub. |

WSOR 3802 |
Description: |
The 3802 and its amazingly loud whistle usher a handfull of cars towards MX crossing at Olin Ave. on Madison's south side. This is the location of the junction between the former C&NW mainline from Janesville to Madison and WSOR's Central Soya spur. There has been talk in recent years about putting the former C&NW mainline back into service to reach a business park south of Madison, but it looks like a jungle for the time being. Out of picture to the left is Madison's first public pool. The pool looks fantastic, and, probably owing to high temperatures and beach closures, it's a smash-hit in its first summer of operation. |

WSOR 3802 on M1 |
Description: |
The M1 crew pulls their train back out into the wind and snow after passing under the Monona Terrace convention center. This crew just got finished switching the UW-Madison Heater plant on Charter street, and now they're taking empties back to WSOR's main yard in Madison at E. Johnson street. The MAJ passed through here about 20 minutes ago, going in the opposite direction. To the left (east) of the building is the frozen Lake Monona, and the 30mph winds out of the NE are doing a good job of flying across the lake and blasting snow onto my face while I take this picture. |

Water tower & WSOR power preparing for an unscheduled set-out |
Description: |
According to what I heard over the scanner, one of the HPJX boxcars in the train had a hotbox and needed to be set out. Here they are pulling part of the train forward so they can get the car clear of the crossover switch and shove it onto the siding. |
