PRR 9519, EH-15, 1949 |
Description: |
FM. Here is an image of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 9 October 1949. Prominent here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9519 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EH-15's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9519 was constructed in January of 1949, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in December of 1962 after just 13 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-A set is serving as tail-end pushers on a westbound freight train ~ but once through one of the Gallitzin tunnels, they'll be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain." The number of the N-5C cabin car is not recorded. This image comes from a B&W slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa. William E. Burket Collection. |
